Two Cases of Malignant External Otitis




Abstract
Malignant external otitis is a infectious disease of the external auditory canal, that involves surrounding tissue and base of skull. This disease is an uncommon infection caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients with reduced immunity and in
elderly
diabetics, and so has high mortalities.
The authors report two cases of malignant external otitis. In both cases Staphylococcus aureus was cultured and they had different clinical courses. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:12, 1995)
